While applying foundation, you notice that you have these really dark circles under your eyes. You try to cover it up with a concealer and thick foundation but nothing works at all! Your excitement for the big date suddenly turns to despair because you realize how tired and stressed out you look — all because of the stubborn eye bags.
I know how you feel, believe me. You can achieve youthful skin naturally by following this post and making your own DIY under-eye serum with essential oils. Are you ready to say goodbye to dark eyes and tired-looking face? Let's do this!
How To Apply Serum
So first things first, we have to familiarize ourselves with the proper way to apply the serum. Yes, there is a correct way to use this product — this is to ensure that you maximize its potential and that you'd get the best results.
For instance, you have this amazing serum that you apply after your moisturizer. What results should you expect? None! Zero! Nada!
The rule of thumb when it comes to skin care products is, the thinner the consistency, the earlier it needs to be applied. That's the hierarchy of application, always thinnest first to thickest last.
The reason behind this
is very simple — if you apply your thin serum on top of your thick cream, the serum will never be able to sink into your skin. All the minerals and nutrients from your serum will only stay on the surface and your skin will not absorb any of it! Such a waste, right?
Generally, you should apply mists first, then move on to serums and oils, and finally, moisturizers and creams. Sunscreen should always be applied last. Make sure to leave an interval of about 1-2 minutes between each application, so that your skin will have time to absorb the product you've just applied.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's move on to the actual step by step on how to apply your DIY anti-aging serum!
- Gently remove your makeup and wash your face.
- Pat dry.
- Use a cotton ball to apply toner.
- Spray your favorite flower water/mist.
- Apply tiny dots of serum (a little goes a long way) all over your face and use your finger to blend lightly and quickly.
- Massage it gently onto the skin. Do not stretch, pull or rub the skin.
- With the tips of your fingers gently tap the surface of your face for a minute. The tapping motion encourages the serum to sink fully. You can also use your jade roller and roll over the serum. This way the product will absorb into the deeper layers of the skin. Read more about the benefits of using jade roller here.
- Wait for another 2-3 minutes before you apply your oils, eye cream and moisturizer.
- Give it at least 2-3 minutes more before you apply foundation and makeup.
