Before we begin.

A disclaimer… I’m NOT a certified hyperpigmentation expert. There are many people smarter than me in this area but what I‘ve done is research—that will save you a ton of time.

I will condense the research into this post so you don’t have to spend days of your own that leads to the same conclusion.

I will however mention that you SHOULD consult with a physician or dermatologist to get diagnosed before trying out any of the more “serious“ topical remedies like:

  • Azelaic acid
  • Corticosteroids
  • Hydroquinone
  • Kojic acid
  • Retinoids, such as tretinoin

We have to start by taking a step back.

Prevention from Making the dark spots, dark patches & hyperpigmentation worse

The most effective way is to stay indoors as sun makes it worse. Most of us are in lockdown these days so that shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Going out anyway?

Medicalnewstoday recommends you use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to prevent the pigmentation from becoming darker.

Apply sunscreen whenever you go out, even if it’s cloudy. The UVB light that causes skin cancer penetrates through the clouds.

Fix hormonal Imbalances that causes Dark spots, patches & hyperpigmentation

The most obvious one is eating more plant-based foods since farmers inject animals with hormones to make them artificially grow faster.

That means you, the end user is ingesting these hormones. Gee, thanks!

I’ve got 4 natural remedies I want you to try. And I want you to be consistent.

Remember, this is not going away after a few days. It’s a longer process, and it’s vital that you believe in a better future for your skin… or else you won’t put in the effort

5 Effective Natural Remedies That Helps Dark spots, patches & Hyperpigmentation

Let’s start with the controversial one first!

Recipe 1: Onion Juice with Apple Cider Vinegar aka "RIP nose"

Natural remedy for dark spots, dark patches & hyperpigmentation

Ok, now this won’t smell pretty!

And it’s best if you do this treatment in the evening - for obvious reasons! 🙂

The antioxidants, flavonoids, phytochemicals and phytonutrients present in onions help keep your skin healthy and young.

They reduce the signs and symptoms of premature aging such as fine lines, age spots, wrinkles, dark spots.

Onion is also very effective in improving complexion of skin and for making your skin radiant and soft. Applying onion juice topically is very effective in lightening your skin complexion.

  1. Throw an onion into the blender or food processor and chop it nicely.
  2. Pour 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar into the mix and blend
  3. Pour the mix into a cheesecloth or strainer so you only get the juice
  4. Apply the mix with a cotton ball
  5. Leave for 15-20 minutes and then clean (and wash your face).

With this (and any other remedy), consistency wins

If you do this every day for 2-4 weeks, you should see your dark spots lighten up.

Note: If you have acne blemishes that are not-healed or flaky and cracked skin, this treatment is not for you. If the onion juice penetrates into an opening in the skin, it can cause bad stinging.

Next we‘ve got…

Recipe 2: Just Banana Peel

Natural remedy for dark patches, dark spots and hyperpigmentation

  1. Grab an organic, ripe but not too ripe Banana peel.
  2. Cut the peel in several pieces

  5. Rinse off and apply moisturizer

If you‘re too busy to lie down with a peel on your face, try this instead:

Recipe 3: Baking Soda and Banana Peel

Baking soda is a good remedy for dark patches too. Is it sparingly because the baking soda can make your skin dry if you apply it too often.

Always wash your face before beginning any treatment.

  1. Take the peel of one organic banana. Wash it, chop it pieces and place it in your blender. Blend the peel into a paste.
  2. Transfer into a small bowl.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  4. Add 2 tablespoons of aloe vera - you can use either fresh or gel.
  5. Mix the ingredients.
  6. Apply on the zones with patches.
  7. Leave on for 10-15 minutes
  8. Rinse off and follow up with a moisturizer

Note: If you‘re on the dry or sensitive side, skip the baking soda as it can cause dry patches and flaking. You can make the treatment with a banana peel and aloe vera.
