Why make the Lavender Bentonite Clay Face Mask?

Relaxing spa-like experience

This face mask will make the perfect addition to your pampering weekend skin care routine. It also makes a great present - fill in a small glass jar, stick a pretty label and a ribbon and you have a cute little something for a loved one.

Bentonite clay is known for its detoxifying properties and lavender gives a mask mesmerizing scent.  Give your skin a much needed relaxing experience.

Suitable for all skin types

Usually masks containing bentonite clay are designed to deal with oily skin and balancing the skin pH. However, this Lavender Bentonite Clay Face Mask is suitable for all skin types. It contains 2 gentle nourishing oils which are added to moisturize and soothe the skin - argan oil and apricot kernel oil.

Argan oil is rich in vitamins A and E and is known for its nourishing properties. Apricot kernel oil on the other hand is excellent for soothing dry patches. If you have eczema or psoriasis, apricot kernel oil is definitely something you want to use! It has strong anti-inflammatory properties and helps reduce redness and soothe skin.

What is Bentonite Clay?

What is bentonite clay and how to pamper your skin with it - Pretty Blooming;

Bentonite clay is a powder that is ground from a crystal called Montmorillonite crystal. This crystal is highly concentrated with negatively charged ions, which make the clay powder so beneficial in healing, absorbing excess dirt and oils, minimizing the appearance of pores.

Bentonite clay is mostly used as a detoxing and healing clay. Itโ€™s been shown to remove toxins and improve your immune system.

The clay contains big number of minerals like magnesium, potassium, and calcium. Our skin has the ability to absorb up to 70% of what you put on it, meaning that applying these minerals to your skin can help to rejuvenate and nourish your skin.

You can find bentonite clay in drug stores; I buy mine from Amazon.

DIY Lavender Bentonite Face Mask Recipe

2 tbsp bentonite clay
1 tsp argan oil
1 tsp apricot kernel oil
4 drops lavender essential oilโ€‹
1 tbsp rose water
1 tbsp lavender buds - optional

Note: Stick to the measurements, especially when it comes to the dilution of essential oils. The dilution I suggest for this recipe is 2% - 4 drops of essential oil diluted in 2 tsp of carrier oil. If you want to learn more about essential oil dilution, you can check my post on the topic here.

How To Prepare and Use It?
1. Mix all ingredients until a thick paste forms. Stir in the lavender buds if you use any.
2. Spread onto face and let it sit on for about 10-15 minutes or until it 'cracks'.
3. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and rinse with cool water. Could be different for you. Leave it until you feel it tightening and drying.
4. Pat dry the skin and finish with toner moisturizer.
